NURS 1160 - Foundations of Professional Nursing Credits: 2
This course will enable students to demonstrate an understanding of the nurse’s unique role in healthcare across the lifespan and continuum of care. Students are guided to utilize knowledge from the sciences, humanities, and nursing to explore the client as a holistic being. It introduces legal, ethical, regulatory, and practice frameworks for the role of the professional nurse. The content will enable the student to develop a foundation of conceptual knowledge to recognize quality/safety standards, use informatics, and foster clinical reasoning, effective communication, and cultural sensitivity and humility. The student will explore being an ethical member of the healthcare team, engaging in self-reflection, and committing to lifelong professional development.
Prerequisite(s) (must have a grade of C or better) or Corequisite(s): BIOL 2113 , ENGL 1130 , and CHEM 1050 Corequisite(s): NURS 1162 and NURS 1190 Recommended Skills, Abilities, or Coursework: CPR, Certified Nursing Assistant Registry
