ART 1173 - New Media Design II

Credits: 3

New Media Design II explores interactive and digital/new media design through visual experience, traditional and experimental design projects, field trips and lectures. New Media Design II focuses on animation and film/video production for the purpose of narrative storytelling and documentary projects. The course will cover the language of animation and aesthetic understanding of animated works, and students will create original animation content digitally and by hand. The course will also cover film/video language, aesthetic understanding of video, cinematography skills (camera angles, composition, light, movement), and video content editing. Basic introduction to audio design will be a component of project realization. Current industry standard software will be used to combine traditional forms of artistic expression and new media to create conceptual, functional, and engaging interactive projects. A course fee is required. Students will also be required to have their own digital video camera and to buy additional supplies not covered by the course fee; see course notes in eServices or contact the instructor. Students should be prepared to spend 6-8 hours per week outside of class working on assignments in the on-campus art studios and facilities.
