Transfer from ARCC

Anoka-Ramsey and other public colleges and universities are working to make transfer easier. Students are encouraged to plan ahead, ask questions, and use tools provided by the college to help ease this complex process. The following page includes:

  • General transfer guidelines to understand, and,
  • The breakdown of different transfer agreements, partnerships, and guides that Anoka-Ramsey and partner schools offer for current students.

To set yourself up for transfer success, pair this information with the tools and tips available to current students on the Transfer from Anoka-Ramsey page.

Transferring from Anoka-Ramsey

General Guidelines for Transfer of Credits

The receiving college or university determines what credits transfer and if they meet requirements for specific degrees. Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) goal areas are determined by the originating Minnesota State institution.

Institutions accept credits from courses and programs like those they offer. They look for similarity in course goals, content, and level. Degree programs usually count credits in three categories-general education, major/minor courses, and electives.

Not every course that transfers will help students graduate. The key question is, “Will your credits fulfill requirements of the degree or program you choose?”

If students change their career goals or majors, they might not be able to complete all degree requirements within the usual number of graduation credits.

Transfer Tools

As transfer planning can be complex, various agreements, guides, and resources have been developed to help simplify transfer procedures for students and allow for transfer of credits from Anoka-Ramsey to other colleges or universities. These include:

Minnesota State Transfer Pathways

Transfer Pathways are designated associate degrees that directly transfer to specific bachelor’s degree programs at one or more of the seven Minnesota State universities, without losing time, money, or generating excess credits.

Students who complete a Transfer Pathway degree will be guaranteed junior status upon admission to the university and are assured that the bachelor’s degree can be completed in 60 additional credits (for 120-credit programs). A student must still meet any special admission requirement for the major and are not guaranteed admission into the major itself.

Who is this for:

  • Students who are interested in transferring to a four-year Minnesota State university with a major that falls within a designated transfer pathway offered at Anoka-Ramsey.

The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC)

The Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) commits all public colleges and universities in the state of Minnesota to a broad educational foundation that integrates a body of knowledge and skills with study of contemporary concerns-all essential to meeting individual, social, personal, and career challenges.

Students who complete the MnTC at Anoka-Ramsey, (with 2.0 GPA and a minimum of 40 credits), will have completed the lower-division general education requirements at any public college or university in Minnesota, as well as several private and out of state colleges and universities - see www.anokaramsey.edu/mntc for specific institutions.

Agreements have been made with the following colleges/universities for students who complete the MnTC and/or the Associate of Arts degree at Anoka-Ramsey and meet the individual college’s entrance requirements.

  • All Minnesota State Institutions
  • University of Minnesota System

Students who complete the MnTC at one participating school and transfer to another participating school have fulfilled the lower-division general education requirements for that school. Individual course MnTC goals are determined by the originating Minnesota State institution.

Some coursework or exams (such as CLEP, credit by exam, or DANTES), completed as part of the MnTC requirements, however, may not be accepted for credit by the University of Minnesota or other institutions.

Who is this for:

  • Students who are interested in transferring to a four-year Minnesota State institution with a major that does not have a transfer pathway at Anoka-Ramsey, or,
  • Students who are interested in transferring to a University of Minnesota campus (or another college/university that accepts the MnTC) with their generals completed.

Articulation Agreements

Articulation agreements are formal transfer agreements between two or more colleges and universities to accept credits in transfer toward a specific academic program. Many times, articulation agreements are for specialized professional or technical programs offered at two-year colleges (e.g., Associate of Science (AS), Associate of Fine Arts (AFA), Association of Applied Science (AAS), etc.) that can be applied to specific programs at the receiving university. To view the current articulation agreements that Anoka-Ramsey has established click here to view the articulations search page. Select “Anoka-Ramsey Community College” as the sending institution and then click the “Search” button. All current agreements should appear and have further information available.

Who is this for:

  • Students who are interested in a degree offered by Anoka-Ramsey that has a written articulation agreement and who are interested in transferring to the receiving four-year university specified in the articulation agreement.

Additional Transfer Partnerships

In addition to the articulation agreements referred to above, Anoka-Ramsey has developed a number of individual transfer partnerships with local colleges and universities for ease of transfer. To view Anoka-Ramsey’s current transfer partnerships, visit the Partnership Programs page linked here.

Who is this for:

  • Students who are interested in one of the transfer partnerships offered at Anoka-Ramsey.

Cooperative Admissions Agreements

The Minnesota Cooperative Admissions Program (MnCAP) is a cooperative arrangement between the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and the Minnesota State system to facilitate the transfer of students from Minnesota’s public two-year campuses to participating colleges within the university at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. Under this agreement, students who are not offered admission to the University of Minnesota and choose to enroll in one of the seven metro area community colleges will be assured admission to one of the University of Minnesota’s participating colleges when they meet certain conditions. Students will work with designated staff from one of the community colleges and the University’s Office of Admissions to define the specific conditions for transfer.

Who is this for:

  • Students who are interested in transferring to one of the specific MnCAP colleges within the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

Transferology.com and Transfer Guides

Students are strongly encouraged to create a free account with Transferology.com. Transferology.com allows students to input their completed or in-progress coursework from Anoka-Ramsey and other colleges/universities and see how those courses transfer into college/universities across Minnesota and the United States. Not all colleges/universities use Transferology.com, but many do. Students can know in advance how their credits would transfer and can use this information to make informed decisions regarding transfer. Students should always confirm with the receiving institution as to how credits transfer since they make the final determination.

Transfer guides are documents outlining which Anoka-Ramsey courses will transfer to an outside university. Anoka-Ramsey academic advisors cooperatively develop transfer guides for many public and private colleges throughout Minnesota and the region. Transfer guides can outline specific university degree requirements and identify equivalent Anoka-Ramsey courses for students considering transfer to the university. Guides that our academic advising team have collected and maintained for surrounding public and private colleges outside of the Minnesota State system can be found by visiting Anoka-Ramsey’s Transfer Guide webpage. In addition, four-year degree maps or academic catalogs at other institutions can be used in conjunction with other transfer tools to plan a student’s transfer path.

Who is this for:

  • Students looking to transfer their Anoka-Ramsey credits to another college/university.
