ART 2255 - Wood-Fired Ceramics Credits: 3
This course provides an investigation of the ceramic process of wood-firing. Students will create new wares for wood-firing. A variety of slips and glazes appropriate for the particular firing will be introduced. As a class, students will work together to complete the necessary preparations then load and fire the wood kiln. After cooling and unloading, the results will be evaluated. A brief history of wood-firing will be covered. Students will be required to buy additional supplies that are not covered by the course fee. Students should be prepared to spend 6-9 hours per week working in the studio outside of class.
