EDUC 2050 - Human Relations and Multicultural Education Credits: 3
This course introduces potential teacher education students to the principles, concepts, and approaches to human relations and multicultural education. Major topics will focus on student, family, and community diversity. Specifically, students will explore how race, culture/ethnicity, language, gender, social class, sexual identity, and disability create potential inequities and a lack of access to high quality education in schools and communities. The course will utilize the life experiences of the students as a backdrop in designing culturally and linguistically responsive classroom strategies and methodology. Field experience hours will be required via multicultural events with follow-up reflections.
Recommended Skills, Abilities, or Coursework: Ability to do college level reading and writing as demonstrated by meeting enrollment requirements for ENGL 1120 /ENGL 1121
