Program Description
The Psychology Transfer Pathway Associate of Arts (AA) degree program offers students a powerful option: the opportunity to complete an Associate of Arts degree with course credits that directly transfer to designated Psychology bachelor’s degree programs at Minnesota State universities. The curriculum has been specifically designed so that students completing this pathway degree and transferring to one of the six Minnesota State universities listed in the program page below will enter the university with junior-year status. All courses in the Transfer Pathway associate degree will directly transfer and apply to the designated bachelor’s degree programs in a related field.

Program Requirements: 14-15
Choose two of the following:
General Education/MnTC Requirements: 40 Credits
Complete the remaining credits in courses from the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC), including all courses listed. You must complete all ten goal areas and maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA for the entire MnTC. One course may satisfy more than one goal area, but the course credits may be counted only once.

Goal 02: Critical Thinking
Three courses required.
Choose a minimum of one other course if completing ENGL 1120 /ENGL 1121 and PSYC 2280 at ARCC.
Goal 03: Natural Sciences
Two courses required: one from each of two departments. One must include a lab.
A biology lab course covering human biology is strongly recommended: BIOL 1100 .
Goal 04: Mathematical/Logical Reasoning
Goal 05: History/Social/Behavioral Sciences
Two courses required: one from each of two categories.
Goal 05B ANTH/PSYC/SOC completed with any of the PSYC program requirements if taken at ARCC.
Goal 06: Humanities/Fine Arts

Completed with PSYC 1110 if taken at ARCC.

- Choose any HPER course(s) totaling at least three credits. Credits: 3
Elective Courses: 2-3 credits
Completed 2-3 credits to meet the 60 credit total. (May not be needed if 60 credit total is already met)
Program Goals
By completing this program, students will achieve the following learning goals:
- Knowledge Base: Students should demonstrate fundamental knowledge and comprehension of the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, historical trends, and empirical findings in psychology to discuss how psychological principles apply to behavioral problems;
- Scientific Inquiry and Critical Thinking: Students should demonstrate scientific reasoning and problem solving needed to investigate behavior, understand research, and draw conclusions about psychological phenomena;
- Ethical and Social Responsibility in a Diverse World: Students should become familiar with the formal regulations that govern professional ethics in psychology and begin to embrace the values that will contribute to positive outcomes in work settings and in building a society responsive to multicultural and global concerns; and
- Communication: Students should be able to write a cogent scientific argument, present information using a scientific approach, engage in discussion of psychological concepts, explain the ideas of others, and express their own ideas with clarity.
Degree Specifics
- A minimum of 60 semester credits in courses numbered 1000 or above.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 in courses numbered 1000 or above at ARCC.
- Some students may need preparatory courses in the areas of English, mathematics or reading. Courses numbered below 1000 will not apply toward this degree.
- Satisfy residency requirements.
- A minimum grade of C must be earned in all program requirements.
- Completion of specific degree requirements.
- Each state university has specific program requirements for completion. Please speak with your advisor about requirements at receiving institutions.

Minnesota State Universities - Designated Degrees
If you complete a Transfer Pathways program at a Minnesota State community college and are admitted to a connected program at a Minnesota State university (connected programs are listed on each transfer pathway program page), you will be guaranteed junior status and all 60 associate degree credits will count toward the related bachelor’s degree. Students must meet special admission requirements for the major and are not guaranteed admission into the major itself.

- Southwest Minnesota State University: Community Psychology and Health Promotion BA, Psychology BA

Pathway Plan
Classes are scheduled for full-time students to complete in two years; part-time students will need more time. For assistance with pathway planning, students should schedule an appointment with an academic advisor.
